Score:  6

Annotation:  The International Child Abuse Network provides helpful information on research resources, parenting, as well as links to other Child Abuse organizations.  Facilitated chat groups are also offered but not for the purposes of research.  If a researcher needs some support, he/she is invited to post questions on the Bulletin Board and will receive a reply from the YES ICAN staff.  Regarding Child Abuse Reporting, every American state is listed on this site and provides contact information by state for the viewer.  Some research facts and figures are also valuable aspects of this website.  At the time of my review of this site, several pages within were under construction with an expected completion date of spring, 2005.

Title of website:  The Child Safety Institute CAPS

URL of website:  http://www.kidsafe-caps.org/

Score:  4

Annotation:  Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers to respond to the growing problem of child abuse and neglect on Long Island, New York. Several links are located within this site offering help and support to children, teens, parents and professionals.  By far the most unique feature of this site is that CAPS offers a New York State Department of Education approved provider course entitled Violence Prevention Training. New York State law requires all individuals applying for teacher, teacher assistant, pupil personnel, service professional, school administrator or supervisor, or superintendent of school with certification on or after Feb.2, 2001, to complete this State-approved 2-hour course on violence prevention and intervention.  In addition training is provided on the identification, and reporting of child abuse, neglect and maltreatment.  Leaders in other states could gain valuable information on this possibility for mandated training.
